Book Review: 22 Seconds (Women's Murder Club) by James Patterson

Another successful hit from the co-authors of The Women’s Murder Club. Drugs, the hot topic of 2nd amendment rights, murders - the whole shebang falling squarely on the shoulders of the Women’s Murder Club.

SFPD Sergeant Lindsay Boxer has guns on her mind.   There’s buzz of a last-ditch shipment of drugs and weapons crossing the Mexican border ahead of new restrictive gun laws. Before Lindsay can act, her top informant tips her to a case that hits disturbingly close to home.   Former cops. Professional hits. All with the same warning scrawled on their bodies:   You talk, you die.   Now it’s Lindsay’s turn to choose.

Book review: 22 Seconds (Women's Murder Club)

Lindsay and Joe get to work together in this twisty thriller. All the women are back and doing what they love. Cindy is struggling with writing the memoirs of a sick serial killer and Lindsay is trying to decide if her CI is full of hot air or is telling her the truth about a huge gun and drug shipment coming in.  The former cops begin to show up dead. Professional hits.

But who is running this and why? While each body has a message, You Talk You Die, it isn’t clear what they should be quiet about. Does it have anything to do with the dirty cop they put away? Could he be running things from prison?  As Lindsay and Joe get a little too close, their own lives are threatened and Lindsay isn’t having that.  Full-on action from the first page. Each of the women has her own battles and some are pretty sick and twisted.

This series is always a treat to see a group of like minded women from intertwined but varied careers (ADA, journalist, ME, detective) form genuine strong bonds empowering themselves and those around them. Not without conflict- not without sacrifice and introspection— but it’s all laid bare for us to see. This install takes us through a massive takedown of the remnants of a ring of dirty cops and clever ruthless drug and gun runners.

But it’s a rocky road to get to the endgame. Lindsey’s departure from Julie’s 4th birthday party reminds us of the sacrifices law enforcement makes daily as they live dual lives within their family and amongst the underbelly of our society. Claire shows us her morgue “patients” are more than a flesh puzzle on a slab as she goes the extra mile to comfort a surviving tween. Great read relevant to our times and current angry citizen climate as well as the bad guys.

22 Seconds is a riveting story that sheds light on the harsh reality of gun violence. In a nation where the prevalence of mystery, murder and drugs is an everyday occurrence, Lindsay and Joe put their lives on the line to clean up the scum. This volume of The Women's Murder Club does not disappoint.

Again, he did it. Read the entire book, along with the teasers for his new book, James Patterson, in a day and a half. This book was especially suspenseful, and action packed.

These two have a winning combination. Will appeal to any serious women who read murder mysteries. Womens murder club is the best ever.
